Jessica Alba
Digital Painting
The Beginning
This piece is significant because it was my first ever digital painting. Due to a few strange circumstances I had time to kill in a room that had a graphics tablet. Always curious as to how they could be used, I decided to sit down and have a play with it. I got used to drawing with it quite quickly and decided to have a go at drawing a portrait. I found this photograph of Jessica Alba and sketched out the basic shape of the head.
Digital
I quickly began to realise the benefits of painting digitally..
- No mixing of paint
- No waiting for paints to dry
- You can Undo
- Unlimited materials
- Consistent Lighting
- Ability to zoom
- Sharp thin brushes for detail
I spent about 6 hours on it in total and was amazed at what I had produced. The ability to zoom and paint fine details meant that I was able to take my paintings that final stage further towards photo-realism. The next challenge was to attempt a color painting. I bought a Wacom Graphics tablet instantly after completing this painting.
